Immaculate Conception | ||||||||||||||||||
Immaculate Conception church is found in an idyllic sylvan setting by the banks of the river Etherow. It was built in 1895 to serve the tiny hamlet of New York (which is still its address!) and nearby Charlesworth and Broadbottom. Manchester is a dozen miles away to the west; the Peak District a steep hike away to the east. Along with its Mass centre at St Margaret's School, Gamesley, the congregation is drawn from a dozen places, forming a happy worshipping family who love this parish and its gem of a church.
